Audio Calibration

If you have ever bought a sound system, especially a surround sound system and tried wiring up the amplifier and working through the menu of features, you have probably come across things like - delay, speaker distance, test tone, phase, x-over, large or small speakers and a host of other choices and options. These are there for a reason, but are widely misunderstood, misused or, most commonly ignored.

If you are setting up an audio system, it is a pretty sure bet that you are not getting your money’s worth, no matter how good your sound system is. This is perfectly understandable. It is not easy and there are many things to consider. This is where you need audio calibration.

Small room acoustics are complex, so maximizing your audio system will take time, effort and the right test equipment. Imagine getting rid of that annoying boom or squeaky top end; being able to clearly hear every word spoken in a movie and being able to close your eyes and ‘see’ exactly where every sound is coming from. Even if you think your audio system is great, you will be stunned by the improvements after audio calibration.

There is a good chance your audio system is working hard generating sounds you can't even hear. They are there all right, but complex room ‘modes’ can mean that where you are sitting could be just the spot where there is nothing to be heard at specific frequencies. Audio calibration can help resolve that.

Video Calibration

Have you ever noticed when you go to the audio/video store and look at that huge wall full of televisions that the picture on each one of them looks just a little bit different, and that a few look very different from most of the rest?

This occurs because the televisions in the store probably have their picture controls set to the factory presets, and each manufacturer seems to have a slightly different idea of what those should be. Manufacturers realize that their televisions on display are competing for your attention. Their factory presets are designed to grab your attention with a bright and colorful picture and not necessarily to properly and accurately display video information. Thus your television, as it comes from the factory, will not be properly setup for accurate viewing of a high-resolution video source such as Blu-Ray.

While the picture might appear punchy and bright, it will lack resolution and detail when compared to the picture of a properly calibrated television set. Once properly calibrated, your display will take on a more life-like look with improved detail.  It won't seem so much like TV anymore, it will have a smoother more comfortable film-like look.

Audyssey MultEQ Pro Calibration

Certified  Installer

Until now, world class sound was limited to the best theaters. Now, with Auydssey MultEQ you can hear accurate, enveloping, and distortion-free sound everywhere in your listening room. MultEQ was developed over five years with $6 million of University-based research to discover how to build an advanced automatic system that can measure the acoustics of the room and correct audible sound distortion throughout the entire listening area, not just in one spot.

When you experience Audyssey technology, a cloudy layer is lifted away, leaving only clear, accurate, natural sound. Voice and dialog become focused and intelligible, musical balance is restored, musical instruments and sound effects become precisely localized, and surround soundstage is made seamless and enveloping.

Audyssey MultEQ ships as a standard feature in products from many of today's leading home-theater system manufacturers and can be self-installed. For even higher performance, a professional installation can be performed by an Audyssey-Certified Installer.
